Integral Bell Pipe Joining Procedures
Step 1 Wipe all
dirt and grease from male end. Insure male end is beveled and de-burred.
Step 2 Apply lubricant
to male end (particularly the bevel), using a paint
brush. Do not lubricate the gasket or bell.
Step 3 Insert
beveled end into bell until reference mark is flush with
lip of the bell. Because of close tolerances vertical and
horizontal alignment is very important.
Sept 4 If installation
requires that the pipe be cut, bevel the cut ends uniformly.
A 15o bevel must be made for proper entry into
the gasket area.
Step 5 Reference
marks—A felt pen or crayon can be used to mark the location
of a reference mark after cutting and beveling. To determine
proper location of mark, refer to factory marking on pipe
of same size.
Note: If needed,
a pry bar may be used to assist in joining in the pipe sections.
If this method is used, the pipe should be protected by a short board placed
between the pipe end and pry bar. If normal force is not
sufficient to completely join the pipe, separate the joint
and check to make sure there are no obstructions.
Caution: Never
allow gaskets to come in contact with diesel
fuel or other such petroleum products.
